PAUL CHISHOLM
I create because I have to, too survive it is
something within in me which makes me analyze the world and then
formalize it in a variety of media. Creation is what makes me tick its
what makes me get out of bed in a morning! My work covers a variety of
issues and subject matters through various media, forever evolving
forever maturing.
Through landscape paintings, collected detritus,
abstracts, paintings of the male form and photography my art works asks
us to contemplate mans relationship with nature- both renewal and
destruction; life’s cycles.
All of my work comes down to the basics of life;
birth sex and death, a questioning of the world and its mechanics. My
work seeks to reveal the beauty and intimacy of human existence when
everything else can at times can feel brutal and overwhelming. My
creations allow time for contemplation and reflection a space to breath.
My work with dust; the collecting of samples from
historic places is a documentation of our history a captured moment in
the evolution of man.
My current
series of abstract watercolors, which are titled with media headlines
from the day of the pictures creation, look to formulate a debate
between abstraction and information from real events and ones own vision
of the world.
Beneath all of the artists work there is a feeling
that life itself is far from idyllic; ironically we are destroying our
planet and each other in pursuit of a perceived perfect life.
