HEIDI MARIA REGAZ
While
living what we are meant to, we show our singularity. Doing so we might
be rejected by those who are afraid of following the path they feel
within and live in way they think it might be expected from them. Each
one of us is designed in a different way, carries talents and tendencies
within which urge for fulfilment. If we don’t allow it, there will be
dissatisfaction, illness. The body starts to twist and stiffen. That’s
where our fear of nakedness begins, for naked bodies do not lie. With
dresses we present the world a touched up view of ourselves what the
naked body cannot do.
Thus posing naked in front of a drawing class always means to show
ourselves just as we are, to sustain the intensive glances of the
drawing artists who illuminate every inch of the body. Who spot the body
with all senses, while their hand follows the movements on the sheet,
draws lines, intensifies shadows and places lights. While drawing I’m
sensing the life story of the model standing there, understanding the
chosen pose. Models who allow glances upon their naked body with great
naturalness, others who don’t find that so easy, who are hiding and thus
make the drawing more difficult. There is a constant dialog between
model and artist. If people face up to their feelings coming up while
viewing the finished picture, the dialog continues speechless in the
language, I have chosen and thus the communication is flowing. The
language of the picture does not need words. The picture speaks through
the means of feelings, and while opening up to your feelings,
you are listening to the language of your
innermost.
Drawing naked people is a far-reaching work for artist as well as model.
Form and posture of the body show what we have experienced, what we feel
and think. Naked we are honest and authentic. Nakedness shows the self
and not the actor. And man is beautiful like all creatures, but the only
one being afraid of showing himself as he is. So the drawing of a nude
model is very direct and blunt.
Drawing and painting with the bare hands allows a directness which is
not possible with the brush. Thus I draw and paint mostly without this
aid. I go into a process which is taking me further and further and
while doing so I come to an understanding of the person I draw which is
beyond my knowing. The same happens with my oil and acrylic painting. I
chose a subject and through the process of painting I come to a more
wide understanding. And thus experimenting with materials and letting my
hand just go where they want trusting my feelings I come to a wider
understanding of this world.
